Black plum which is commonly knows as jamun is a very famous fruit in India. It is well known as Jamun and belongs to the Myrtaceae family. It is also known as jambul, jambolan, jambas, malabar plum, rajaman, neredu, kala jamun, naval, jamali, java plum and etc in other regions of the world. It is very attractive, sweet and delicious fruit found everywhere during summer season. When eaten, it usually leaves your tongue purple colored.

The black plum is known to relieve stomach pain, carminative, anti-scorbutic and diuretic. Jamun vinegar is good to reduce enlargement of spleen, diarrhea and can also help people with urine retention problems.

The jamun fruit is loaded with sugars like glucose and fructose along with lesser calories. Jamun improves oral health

The black plum leaves have antibacterial properties and are used for strengthening teeth and gum. The leaves are astringent, considered good for throat problems. The decoction of the bark is used to wash mouth and beneficial for mouth ulceration due to its astringent effect. It is good for mouth as well as for teeth due to its acidity. For people that has diabetes, please consume this fruits moderately and keep your blood sugar level in track. This fruit has effect on lowering blood sugar level. Over-eating this fruit may lead to dangerously low blood sugar level.

Eating excessively, might lead to cough, sore throat and accumulation of sputum in lungs.

It is also not advised to be eaten after surgery.

Avoid drinking milk or water after having this fruit for atleast an hour.

    Thanks for the informative article. In ayurveda too, you can find many such benefits of Jamun, and not just Jamun, ayurveda has got solution for many problems through these fruits. The only thing that people lack of is awareness.
