5 effective ways to get rid of dark circles


Dark discoloration of the skin under the eye is mainly referred to as dark circles. It is also known as dark rings or shadows.
Some of the main causes behind the formation of dark circles are heredity, aging, dry skin, prolonged crying, working for long hours in front of a computer, mental or physical stress, lack of sleep and an unhealthy diet. Both men and women of different age groups can have dark circles.

Dark circles are not a serious skin problem, but they make people look tired, exhausted, unhealthy and older. You can easily get rid of unsightly shadows under your eyes using some easy home remedies.
Here are the top 5 effective ways to get rid of dark circles faster;

1. Potato

Potatoes are a natural under eye brightener and applying potato juice or potatoes directly on the affected area can banish dark eye rings.


Peel and grate a small potato. Strain grated potato through cheesecloth to extract juice. Refrigerate juice until cool. Soak cotton balls in potato juice and apply them to eyes. Leave on 20 minutes. Remove cotton balls, rinse your eye area with cool water, and pat dry. Repeat daily. It will help if done regularly.

2. Almond oil

Almond oil consist of mighty, nutrition-rich almonds and transforms it into a powerful oil with incredible benefits.


Wash your face with a mild cleanser and pat dry with soft towel. Apply a few drops of almond oil around the eyes night time before going to bed. Massage gently in circular motion for few minutes. Leave it overnight.

3. Tomato juice and lemon juice

Tomatoes are an excellent solution for getting rid of dark circle, as it naturally helps to decrease the dark circles and also makes the skin soft and supple.


Mix 1 teaspoon each of tomato juice and lemon juice. Gently apply the mixture on dark circles using a cotton ball. Let it sit for 10 minutes and rinse off. Repeat this 2 times daily.

4. Green tea


Another simple technique to get rid of the dark circles is using cold tea bags. Soak a green tea bags in water. Chill it by placing it in the refrigerator for a while. Now, place them over your eyes. Use this remedy on a regular basis to see considerable difference.

5. Turmeric and buttermilk

Turmeric is known for its multiple health benefits and so is butter milk.


Take two tablespoon of buttermilk and turmeric powder and mix them well. Apply this paste on your dark circles and leave it for at least 15 minutes. Wash your face with lukewarm water.

Apart from this above homemade remedies you should always drink lots of water, keep yourself hydrated.  You need a good amount of sleep and have no or less stress. Don’t forget to exercise regularly.

  1. I will try these remedies. Dark circles run in my family, but mine are making me look 10 years older than I am. The rest of the skin on my face is soft and I don’t have alot of wrinkles yet. But at 56, my dark circles make me look much older. Thanks for the hints.
